ANAHATA HEALING SOUND THERAPY A life’s JOURNEY At an early age I was drawn to music.. Growing up I took piano and guitar lessons and participated in band starting in the 6th grade playing the trombone. I was a sensitive kid in an empathic sort of way and always felt things quite deeply so much so that I never quite felt that I fit in. Spiritually, I wasn’t much drawn to organized religion, but when attending church with my family, I lost myself in the powerful sounds of the pipe organ, and the beautiful harmonies of the choir. I knew that music drew out emotion and a sense of ‘spirituality’ in me. As I grew older and was exposed to different artists and genres of music, I realized more and more how there was a deep emotional connection to music for me. Songs and different harmonies, sounds, and vibrations had such an amazing impact. Listening for hours at home, at friend’s houses, in my car, and at concerts, music was deeply woven into my soul on levels that only now I am truly beginning to understand. Different people brought all types of musical influences to my world and I now realize that none of this was at all coincidental. When it came time to enter college, I knew that I wanted to somehow make music a part of my career. I briefly entertained music therapy as a course of study, but as things would have it, I ended up with an applied performance degree and eventually a degree in Music Business. I was part of the music industry for a number of years, and eventually moved on to other pursuits but there was always something tugging at me inside. As the years went by, and life changes came upon me and through a series of mind/body/spirit opening events, in 2017 I had a spiritual awakening that took me on a journey that would forever change my life. Meditating, chanting, listening to and reading some of the teachings of Buddha, and various modern spiritual teachers and gurus I developed a practice that deepened my connections to nature, spirituality, and music and offered a renewed sense of my ‘self’ and purpose. I left a decades long marriage and moved my life, my bikes, and a few other possessions to northern Illinois, where I would continue on my journey of study and learning, meeting new people who would guide me further along on my path. When I came into the presence of crystal and metal singing bowls for the first time, they struck me in such a deeply connective way both emotionally and physically. I knew that there was something more to , I purchased my very first Tibetan bowl and started to explore, and incorporate it into my practice. It was tuned to the note ‘F’. Attending sound bath events, drum circles, and sound healings as often as I could, I started adding instruments to my personal collection and began to more deeply explore the harmonic complexities of these mystical vessels; all the while noticing more and more how the frequencies, notes, intervals and vibrations were affecting me in positive ways. Better sleep, deeper meditations, feeling physically better; the benefits were noticeable. I also found that these bowls and other healing instruments would evoke deep emotional release(s) in me and that’s when I realized that I wanted to sound form a dedicated practice to expand my knowledge and bring this healing energy to others. The idea for Anahata was born. When coming up with a name, the choice came clear to me one day while pouring through articles on the internet and a vision came forth. Early on when I began to acquire these amazing instruments and before I knew about the subtleties of the frequencies and notes and how they affect us down to the cellular level, I kept buying bowls tuned to note ‘F’. For those that know about the Chakra system, F represents the 4th Chakra, the heart Chakra, our spiritual center. Emotionally it also represents balance, harmony, trust, loving awareness, and growth. Physically, it represents the heart, thymus, breathing, the lungs, blood pressure, and our immune system. The number 4 is also a foundational number representing strength and stability. ANAHATA I continue to expand my learning and knowledge to dedicate myself to helping others experience and realize the healing and balancing benefits of these amazing instruments. Like most of us in our human experience, I am humbly an admitted novice and life traveler on a forever journey to learn and grow and I believe that all experience is learning, and that the power of intent drives our practices and healing. Spritual practice encompassing music & sound goes back to ancient societies and cultures. Everything in our universe is comprised of energy and has its own frequency. Our minds, bodies, organs, down to the cellular level are all affected by the frequencies around us; heard and unheard. A Universal symphony of vibration and frequency. I dedicate the energies from Anahata Sound Healings to everyone who has ever been affected by a song, a sound, a chant, a hum, a rhythm, and anyone who is need of healing, balance, or clearing and to the highest good and true alignment for everyone. Also, to all those who have walked with, taught me, humbled me, and inspired me along this path. My life’s journey has come full circle and I know that this is what I am here to do. Thank you for allowing. Namaste. Anahata=unlimited, infinite sound Anahata is the fourth primary chakra according to the Hindu Yogic, Shakta and Buddhist Tantric traditions. In Sanskrit the word anahata means unhurt, unstruck and unbeaten. Anahata Nad refers to the Vedic concept of unstruck sound, the sound of the celestial realm. Ananhata is usually associated with a calm serene sound void of violence. The Anāhata Chakra is one of the most beautiful and richest Chakras, and invites us to dwell longer in its inexhaustible treasures of delightful feelings and experiences. It is located in the region of the heart, in the centre of the chest, and this is why it is also known as the Heart Centre. And it is not without reason that the heart is regarded as the symbol of love, for the Anāhata Chakra is the seat of love Tom Buske is the founder of ANAHATA and resides with his love Michele, their 2 Doberman pups, Karma & Grace and cat (Shelby) affectionately known as ‘Titty’ in Antioch, Illinois. Tom is an avid cyclist, enjoys Yin and restorative yoga practices, and in addition to his beloved Tibetan bowls also plays gong, native American flute(s), Shaman drum, and various other ancient and modern instruments. He is trained as a Reiki level 1 practitioner, and will be advancing his Reiki and sound healing certifications in the fall of 2022. “I am so grateful and feel so humbly blessed by this journey and gift of music and learning and want to share it with as many people as I can. Music has healed me in so many ways over the years, and I believe that spreading love and facilitating healing and inner balance through sound and music is one of the greatest gifts one can give.” About my healing sessions: Using various instruments, mallets, striking techniques, methods range from sparse use of notes and simple intervals, to working with 2 to 3 bowls, gong, bells, drums and even the voice to weave through a series of harmonic patterns and steps to help loosen energy blockages, relieve physical pain & discomfort, or simply to facilitate a greater sense of ease or relaxation. ‘I like to work gently with dissonance and tight intervals to softly loosen and free past trauma, physical or emotional to bring the body back to a state of balance & harmony.’ Starting sessions off with the beating of a drum or the soft, building striking of a gong sends deep vibrations through the body to open up energy channels for more focused, intuitive work. Different sounds, resonances, and even striking methods may affect mood and feeling of physical wellness. ‘During my own self healing sessions, I like to experiment with how different notes and frequencies resonate within and I continue to develop my sense of intuition daily. By observing and ‘listening’, the body will offer insights as to what it needs. Tuning into this feedback with each client is my goal.’ As in Yin yoga I believe that there is a subtle edge to sound therapy work and playing around or near that edge elicits a feedback loop to work with. The goal is to help harmonize and energetically re-balance and open the flow of Chi within the vital body and to open up blocked energetic channels. ‘Each person’s sound healing journey is their own. I am only here to facilitate. The body will reveal what it needs.’ ‘FREQUENCY + INTENTION = HEALING’ ….Jonathan Goldman |
